Who I AM

Hi, I’m Coach Mary.

I live in Boston Massachusetts, actually I am born and raised in Boston, a true Bostonian.  When I was 11 or 12 years of ages, my older brother introduced me to basketball.  I was 13 when I became a starting varsity point guard on my high school basketball team.  By the age of 18, I had enjoyed back-to-back-to-back city-wide championships wins.  In the late 1980s pickup basketball games at the local park were getting a lot more physical, after almost having my eye poked out and a knee injury, I settled into college life.

In 1990, while driving home one night after classes, I noticed 5 tennis courts in the south end, well-lit, with lots of tennis players, and that’s when it happened.  I saw something unique.

That night lying in my bed I saw tennis as the easiest game in the world.  I was good with team sports, maybe that’s why—-I thought how easy for me (by myself) to be on a rectangular court with a bouncing tennis ball and a tennis racquet in my hand deciding when, where, why and how?

That one night forever changed my point of view of tennis.  A whole new world of ideas opened for me.

For the past 20 years, I have been a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association, USPTA, not to be confused with the tournament sanctioning United States Tennis Association, USTA, of which I’m also a member.  The RSPA ( Formerly USPTA) is primarily in the business of increasing their member roster, it is the global leader in tennis-teacher certification and professional development. With more than 15,000 members worldwide, the association raises the standards of tennis-teaching professionals and coaches and promotes a greater awareness of the sport. The USTA is in the business of growing and advancing the sport.  If you are interested in teaching tennis, I do endorse you joining these associations.  Contact Me
